One of the national riders with the most worldwide projection,
Alfredo Gómez
, has announced his renewal with the Montesa team for at least one more season. The rider from Cercedilla (Madrid) has won the 2010 Junior World Championship and European Runner-up, also putting in great performances in the absolute National, where he has had the opportunity to measure himself face to face with riders such as Bou, Raga, Fajardo or Cabestany.
Throughout 2011 Alfredo will try to consecrate his progression at the controls of his Montesa Cota 4RT, a bike that he knows well after several years and with which he is completely integrated. In the coming weeks he will decide his race calendar, where he will surely be the full National, the CETI, possibly the Scottish and the Trial World Championship.
According to Alfredo: “As you know, I’ve been riding the Montesa Cota 4RT for three years now, so I’m perfectly adapted to its ride. Throughout this year I will race the national, European and world championships, although finally I don’t know if I will be able to make my debut in the senior team or if I will have to continue one more year in junior. If all goes well I will also be in the SSDTs, making my debut in the most mythical Trial race. Last year we were running a world championship race there and I was very good at it. I love long and hard areas, with water and mud. I’m also really looking forward to the European Championship, as it’s a difficult championship where the key is to be very consistent during all the races and not get off the podium. For the World Championship I would like to race at all and measure myself against the most top riders, to really know where I am and continue learning race after race, although it does not depend directly on me to face the absolute or junior team. Whatever it is, I’ll go for it. Last year I had an injury that affected my season after being first for a good part of the year. I’m really looking forward to the start of the World Cup and to do well, the way I like it. You’ll remember that I’m also doing Enduro races with Husaberg (KTM Spain), the Indoor World Championship with a 250 2T, and the truth is that I’m doing phenomenally. In Genoa I did a sixth place after problems with the rear mousse, so I couldn’t improve any further. I hope for a better result for Barcelona, which will be next Sunday, March 6th.”
