European Trial Championship: Grattrola wins at Isola 2000

grattarola500Matteo Gratterola took his fifth consecutive victory in the fifth and penultimate round of the 2012 European Championships, held in the French town of Isola 2000. The Italian rider has the continental title in his favour after this victory, which was particularly tough and tight due to a lackluster first lap. He was joined on the podium by French rider Cedric Tempier, while the last step went to local Steve Coquelin.

This fifth race was not scoring for all categories, but welcomed the absolute, junior and veteran class over 40 years old. In spite of everything, the rest of the categories were given the possibility of participating as a training session, without official scoring. The organization, led by the
Motoclub La Gaude, marked 15 zones distributed along 9 kilometers.
The competition was completed in the afternoon with a children’s race reserved for riders with electric motorcycles.

From a sporting point of view, the first lap was led by the Spanish rider Pere Borrellas -13 points-, who was once again our only representative in the category. Behind him, the strongest trio of riders were very tight, led by Coquelin (16 points), followed by Tempier (17 points) and Grattarola (18 points).

Like this Pere had everything going for him for the second step through the zones, but He accumulated too many misses from the tenth zone onwards -he scored 21 points in these five final zones, to Grattarola’s 2- and would end up doubling the score of his first set, thus ruling himself out in the fight for victory. It would be Grattarola himself, after signing the best time of the day -8 points-, the rightful winner in Isola 2000. Nice fight between Tempier and Coquelin, resolved in favor of the former by only 2 points margin.

In Junior , victory for the local Caudemberg -23 points-, followed by Petrangeli -28 points- and Lundevold -37 points-. There were no Spanish representatives in this category.

There were also none in the Inter category, where the victory went to Berlatier -9 points-, followed by Roper -21 points- and Foljesson -35 points-.
