Gabriel Marcelli opens CET 2025 with victory in Abrera

The Spanish Trial Championship started its 2025 season in the Barcelona town of Abrera, under good weather and a route that, a priori, was select and spectacular, but ended up being relatively simple for all categories, as shown by the low scores in a generalized way among the first classified.

This event was the first outdoor meeting of the season between the two big favourites: Jaime Busto and Gabriel Marcelli. While the GASGAS rider is dominating at the start of the indoor world championship, in this event it has been Gabriel Marcelli who has been the protagonist and winner after a great race with tight records.

GREAT DUEL BETWEEN THE TR1

The first lap was where most of the penalties were committed, with five decisive zones throughout the course: zones 4 and 5, and zones 7, 8 and 9.

Jaime Busto was the only one who left a fiasco in zone four of this first lap, weighing him down against his main rival, although in the rest of the lap he rode very finely. At the halfway point of the race the distance between Marcelli and Busto was three points, an advantage that the rider from Montesa managed perfectly with a second pass through the zones without any penalty, for two of his rival.

The podium was completed by Aniol Gelabert, who had a nice duel with the British Jack Peace. The tables were turned in the race for both riders, as Jack was third only two points behind Busto after the first lap, but he made four fiascos on the second lap and lost, not only Busto’s camber rope, but third place in favor of Aniol, who starred in a great second lap with only 7 points on his card.

Behind, a good debut for Alex Canales with Montesa, in a race from less to more, showing a great adaptation to his new bike. Behind him, Gerard Trueba completed the classification, who also improved on the second lap, but not so much as to maintain fifth place.

TR2 and TR3 VERY EVEN

In the second category in contention, TR2, the victory went to David Fabián with a card without penalties. Behind him, Marc Piquer, who resolved the tiebreaker with Pau Dinares in his favour.

It should be noted that the top 10 closed with cards of less than 9 points, which shows the level of difficulty of the race for these TR2 riders.

A similar situation was experienced in TR3, where Rodrigo Marchal won with only one point on his card, followed by Jordi Camp and Quim Altes, with three and four, respectively. Berta Abellán’s fourth position is also noteworthy, with nine points on her card.

In Junior, victory for Oriol García, second position for Eneko Martínez and Alex Mediña completing the podium.
