Toni Bou has been proclaimed
2023 Trial World Champion
in what has undoubtedly been one of the most difficult and uncertain seasons of his sporting career.
This crown marks the 17th TrialGP world title, adding to the 16 X-Trial world titles, all of which were consecutive. In the month of November, he could also add the 2023 X-Trial world title, which would make a global tally of 34 trial world titles.
A TOUGH AND UNCERTAIN SEASON
The consolidation of young riders, such as Jaime Busto (runner-up in the 2022 trial world championship) and Gabriel Marcelli, has opened a new scenario of struggle in the trial world championship, which until now was immersed in a long battle between Toni Bou himself and Adam Raga.
This promotion of Jaime Busto, boosted with the motivation of a change of brand to GASGAS, led to a very even start to the season between the Basque rider and the Catalan rider. Such was the point that, after six races, the provisional classification was drawn, but commanded by Busto. The double victories of the rider from Montesa in San Marino and in Italy left the world championship practically sentenced before reaching this Italian GP, where Toni Bou has finally achieved the mathematical difference that gives him the title of TrialGP World Champion 2023.
TONI BOU STATEMENTS
“I’m very happy to win the championship with a win. It has been a hard-fought year, with a difficult start in which Jaime Busto has made it very difficult for us. But we have won a new title in the best way, with a new victory, so I want to thank the team that, as I always say, it would be impossible to maintain this level without all their support and effort.”
Toni Bou has been able to manage with patience, intelligence and experience, a deeply uncertain start to the season, where it seemed that Jaime Busto could take him against the ropes in the final stretch of the season. Finally, his regularity, accuracy and perseverance have been the key to achieving a hard-fought world title.
JAIME BUSTO WORLD RUNNER-UP 2023
Hats off to the work of Jaime Busto and the entire GASGAS team in this 2023 season, where in addition to making his debut as a rider, he also took the controls of a deeply renewed bike.
Jaime has repeated the runner-up position he already achieved with Vertigo in 2022, but additionally demonstrating masterful solvency, adding three victories and starring in absolute heart-stopping comebacks.
Up front, improving aspects of regularity and concentration in the race, he can achieve the consistency needed to be the first rider to snatch the crown from Toni Bou.
